Meet Emma!

Meet Emma — our new wintern (winter intern)! Emma is a recent graduate of the fabulous graphic design program at the College of St. Rose in Albany and we are so excited to have her on the team for the next couple of months as a graphic design intern. Read on to learn a little more about Emma!

Why Graphic Design?

Growing up, I always wanted to be an artist, and originally I began college as a Studio Art major. However, during my freshman year, I took a graphic design course and fell in love with typography and layout design. I realized that graphic design was a great way to take my love of art and combine it with my love of storytelling and collaboration. I switched my major to graphic design the summer before my Sophomore year and have never looked back!

Where do you draw inspiration for your designs?

I get a lot of inspiration from going to downtown Troy and looking at all of the local artist's work, signage, and products. The local shops and artwork inspire me to create designs that incorporate texture, patterns, and feel nostalgic.

What type of design projects are you passionate about and why?

I am passionate about work that features illustration, because I love to draw so I enjoy incorporating that into my design projects. I am also passionate about layout design, because one of my career goals is to work on an edgy magazine design.

Favorite color palette?

Mauve! Paired with a warm gray, a light teal, a gold, and a lighter mauve or lilac.

Coffee or tea?

Tea! I'm obsessed with Peach Green Tea with Lemonade from Starbucks... I get it probably 4 times a week. So addicting

Favorite tv show, movie and/or book?

TV show: The Vampire Diaries

Movie: At the moment, it's Someone Great on Netflix.

Book: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

Hidden Talent?

Makeup. A lot of my friends and family think I should be a makeup artist on the side because I have a ridiculous amount of makeup products and am obsessed with experimenting with different looks. I can do really good winged eyeliner.

What do you like to do when you're not designing?

Go for walks with my Siberian Husky or spend time with my friends.
